Clean electricity straight into the waste facility
Nårab has installed a floating solar park on one of the leachate ponds at Hyllstofta waste facility — 100 kWp producing renewable electricity inside an active landfill site.

A strategic surface inside a landfill site
In early 2025, Norra Åsbo Renhållnings AB (Nårab) installed a floating solar park on one of the leachate ponds at Hyllstofta waste facility. The investment is part of the company's ongoing work to make waste management more sustainable and energy-efficient.
The installation consists of 42 modules and 126 bifacial solar panels with a combined capacity of 100 kWp — covering roughly 500 square metres of water surface. The bifacial panels absorb direct sunlight from above and reflected light from the water, producing more output than conventional ground or rooftop installations. Placing the panels on a leachate pond turns an otherwise unused surface into a productive energy asset without affecting land resources or waste logistics.

Anchoring that protects the pond liner
A critical advantage of Sunsurf Solar's technology is the patented anchoring system, which enables mooring without damaging the pond's protective liner. The system handles significant water-level variations, making it particularly well suited to leachate ponds.
The electricity produced is consumed directly by the daily operations on site. That reduces the need for purchased power, lowers operating costs and increases self-sufficiency. The installation is part of Nårab's long-term environmental and quality strategy, built around circular thinking, sustainable energy sources and efficient use of resources.
